Responsible Use of Astrology

Astrology Is a Guide, Not a Guarantee

Effective 7 June 2026 · Permanent product principle

Welcome to AstroPal. We built this product to help you understand the wisdom of Jyotisha — the ancient Indian science of light, timing, and self-understanding. This page explains how to use AstroPal well, and what it cannot and will not do.

What Jyotisha is

Jyotisha is one of the six Vedangas — the traditional disciplines that support the understanding of the Vedas. It has been studied, refined, and practised for centuries by sages, scholars, astronomers, and astrologers. The foundations of Jyotisha can be found in classical works associated with authorities such as Maharishi Parashara, Varahamihira, Jaimini, Mantreswara, and many other respected scholars.

However, astrology should not be viewed as an exact or deterministic science in the same way as mathematics, engineering, or physics. Astrology is best understood as a system of guidance.

It helps identify tendencies, strengths, challenges, opportunities, and timing influences. It does not remove free will, personal responsibility, effort, wisdom, or divine grace.

The Five Foundations

Traditional wisdom recognises five important factors that shape life.

1. Kalam (Time)

Every action happens within time. Different periods support different activities. Astrology primarily studies time.

2. Sthanam (Place)

The place of birth and the environment in which one lives influence circumstances and opportunities.

3. Karmam (Past Causes and Tendencies)

According to traditional understanding, individuals carry forward tendencies and consequences arising from past actions. Astrology attempts to understand these patterns.

4. Karyam (Present Effort)

This is your effort. Your discipline. Your choices. Your perseverance. No horoscope can replace intelligent action. Many people with difficult charts achieve extraordinary success because of exceptional effort. Many people with favourable charts fail because effort is absent.

5. Deivam (Divine Grace)

There is always a dimension beyond calculation — prayer, good conduct, charity, service, and spiritual practice. The blessings of God, Guru, and accumulated merit can alter outcomes in ways no chart can fully measure. This is why astrology should never be treated as fixed destiny.

The Tide Analogy

Astrology is like understanding the tides of the ocean. When the tide is favourable, a boat may reach shore more easily. When the tide is unfavourable, greater effort may be required. But in both cases — the sailor must still row, the boat must still be steered, and the destination must still be chosen.

Astrology may indicate the tide. It cannot row the boat for you.

Do Not Use Astrology Fatalistically

AstroPal is designed to help you make better decisions. It is not designed to create fear, dependency, helplessness, or anxiety. Avoid thinking:

  • My future is fixed.
  • Nothing can be changed.
  • Success is impossible.
  • Failure is guaranteed.

A better set of questions to ask:

  • What strengths should I develop?
  • What challenges should I prepare for?
  • What opportunities should I use?
  • How can I align effort with favourable timing?

Questions AstroPal Will Not Answer

AstroPal is designed to promote constructive and responsible use of astrology. Some categories of question are out of scope on principle, not on convenience.

Death predictions

AstroPal will not answer questions such as:

  • When will I die?
  • How will I die?
  • What is my exact lifespan?
  • Will someone else die soon?
  • Is death indicated in a specific period?

Classical texts on this topic are nuanced and not uniformly interpreted; birth-data inaccuracies materially affect any longevity computation; and such predictions can create fear, anxiety, and harmful decision-making with little practical value compared to guidance on health, wellbeing, risk management, and quality of life.

Instead, AstroPal may provide general health tendencies, wellness indicators, risk-awareness guidance, and preventive recommendations where appropriate.

Harmful or fear-based questions

AstroPal will avoid answering questions designed primarily to create fear, panic, or distress.

Questions intended to harm others

AstroPal must never be used to target, manipulate, threaten, exploit, or harm another person. This includes questions about a third party's death, downfall, financial ruin, or relationship breakdown when the intent is to act against them.

How AstroPal Works

AstroPal combines classical Jyotisha principles with advanced astronomical calculations:

  • Planetary strengths (Shadbala, Bhavabala)
  • Ashtakavarga
  • Divisional charts (Vargas)
  • Vimshottari and other Dasha systems
  • Transit analysis
  • Yogas and combinations
  • Classical-text-grounded interpretation

The purpose is informed guidance. AstroPal does not claim certainty regarding future events. See our methodology for the full computation framework, and the indexed classical texts for our sources.

Our Philosophy

  • Use astrology for awareness.
  • Use effort for progress.
  • Use wisdom for decisions.
  • Use merit and good actions to improve outcomes.
  • Use spiritual practice to cultivate peace.

The chart may describe the landscape. Your actions determine how you travel through it.

AstroPal provides guidance, not guarantees. Effort, choices, and personal responsibility remain essential in shaping outcomes.
