Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to common pre-purchase questions. Still have something on your mind? Email hello@astropal.ai.
How is AstroPal different from other astrology apps?▾
Every interpretation is grounded in either (a) a value the chart engine actually computed for your chart (Shadbala, Bhavabala, current dasha) or (b) a scripture passage retrieved from indexed classical texts and more. If a passage cannot be retrieved, the answer says so honestly — no invented citations.
How accurate is the chart computation?▾
AstroPal’s engine is Goravani-validated — cross-checked against the Goravani Jyotish Studio reference (the 30-year industry standard) across Shadbala, Bhavabala, Ashtakavarga, and the divisional charts. We use Lahiri ayanamsa (sidereal) and Whole-Sign houses (Parashari), the canonical methods for Vedic chart computation.
Which languages does AstroPal support?▾
26 languages, live today: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Urdu, Nepali, Sinhala, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese. Switch anytime from the language picker — the app, your chats, and your PDF reports all follow. The translation engine preserves citation accuracy: scripture passages stay in their original language with the surrounding interpretation translated.
How do payments work?▾
AstroPal is pay-as-you-go — there is no subscription. You buy question credits (a 20-question pack or a 100-question pack), and each credit is one full, Oracle-depth answer. Indian customers pay in INR via Razorpay; international customers pay in USD via PayPal. Credits are valid for 12 months from purchase.
Do my question credits expire?▾
Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. There is no subscription and no recurring charge. When you run low, you simply buy another pack.
Can I get a refund?▾
Refunds are handled per our published Refund Policy. In short: if a credit-pack purchase fails technically (you were charged but credits were not added), contact us within 7 days and we will make it right. Refunds are not given for dissatisfaction with prediction outcomes, since astrology is interpretative.
Is my birth data private?▾
Yes. Your birth date, time, and place are stored encrypted in our Mumbai-region Supabase database, never sold, never shared with third parties. You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings → Delete account — recoverable for 7 days, then permanently erased.
Are my AI chats private? Who can read them?▾
Your conversations are yours. They are stored encrypted in our Mumbai-region database — anyone looking at the database, an export, or a backup sees unreadable ciphertext, not your chats. Our systems decrypt a conversation only at the moment of processing: to generate your answer, build your chat history view, or export your PDF. No human reads your chats in normal operation, they are never sold, and they are never used to train AI models. To be transparent: this is strong storage encryption, not end-to-end encryption — a server-side AI must briefly process your question in readable form to answer it. That is true of every AI assistant.
How long are my chats kept?▾
By default, conversations are automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after their last message. You can change this in Settings → Chat privacy: keep chats for 30 days, 6 months, or until you delete them yourself. You can also delete any single conversation instantly from the chat sidebar, export any conversation to PDF before it ages out, or delete your entire account from Settings — it stays recoverable for 7 days (signing back in cancels it), after which all chats, birth details, and personal data are permanently erased.
Which services process my questions to generate an answer?▾
Two kinds, briefly and only at answer time: the AI model provider (Anthropic) generates the interpretation — under their policy, API data is not used to train models; and, for non-English chats, a translation service renders the answer in your language. Only your first name accompanies your question, so the reading can address you — your full name, email, and account identity are never sent. Your chart itself is computed on our own servers.
Does AstroPal give medical, legal, or financial advice?▾
No. AstroPal provides astrological guidance for informational and entertainment purposes only. For health, legal, or financial decisions, consult qualified professionals. See our Disclaimer.
What if I am not sure about my exact birth time?▾
AstroPal asks for a birth time and will not compute a chart without one. This is deliberate. The Ascendant (Lagna) moves about one degree every four minutes and all twelve houses are measured from it, so a chart built on a guessed time is not a rougher reading — it is a different chart. We would rather ask you to find the time than hand you something confidently wrong. A birth certificate, hospital record, or a parent's memory is usually enough. If the time is truly lost, rectification against known life events is a job for a human astrologer.
Can I ask a question without a birth chart? (Prasna)▾
Yes. Prasna is the classical horary branch: instead of your birth chart, it reads the chart of the moment you ask. It is the traditional answer to 'I do not know my birth time' and to questions that belong to a moment rather than a life — a decision in front of you, a missing object, an outcome already in motion. AstroPal computes the Prasna chart from the instant your question is registered, along with the Arudha, Gulika, and the composite points, and reads it through the Five Sutras of Prasna Marga chapter VI.
What is my Nakshatra birthday, and why does it differ from my calendar birthday?▾
Traditional Indian practice celebrates the day each year when the Moon returns to the nakshatra (lunar mansion) it occupied at your birth, within the correct lunar month — not the Gregorian date. It usually falls within a couple of weeks of your calendar birthday and sometimes twice in a year. AstroPal computes both the Nakshatra birthday and the tithi-based variant used in North India, from your own chart rather than a generic table.
Does AstroPal do compatibility matching (Kundli Milan)?▾
Yes, and it runs two systems side by side rather than one number. The Ashtakoota Guna Milan scores the classical eight koota out of 36. Separately, Mangal Dosha is checked from the Lagna and the Moon, with the classical cancellation rules (Bhanga) applied and each one named — because a raw Manglik flag without its cancellations is the single most misleading thing in popular astrology. Kerala-tradition Papa Samyam is scored too, so you can compare traditions instead of trusting one verdict.
Can AstroPal pick an auspicious time (Muhurta)?▾
Yes. The Muhurta module evaluates candidate windows against the full Panchanga — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana — plus the rising sign at the moment and the occasion-specific dosha checks, and it explains why the windows it rejected were rejected. Supported occasions include marriage, griha pravesh, business inception, travel, and vehicle purchase.
Can I add multiple birth charts (family, partner)?▾
Yes — you can save birth profiles for partners, children, and parents. Every answer, on any profile, uses one question credit.
Are PDF reports available?▾
Yes — you can export your chart and readings as a PDF from within the app.
Which texts does AstroPal quote, and are they used with permission?▾
Classical Sanskrit works and more, listed in full at /sources — Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, Brihat Samhita, Brihat Jataka, Saravali, Phala Dipika, Jataka Parijata and the rest. Every citation names the original sastra and its classical author, never a modern translator or edition. The Sanskrit e-texts are used with the permission of the volunteers of sanskritdocuments.org, whose wider Jyotisha collection is worth reading in its own right. AstroPal's English renderings are prepared from the original Sanskrit and independently worded.
How do I contact support?▾
